Cristiano Ronaldo is taking four private jets to the World Cup for family and friends

24 April 2014

Portuguese football star Cristiano Ronaldo is bringing four private jets with him to the World Cup in Brazil.

Cristiano Ronaldo is no stranger to doing things in grand style.

This is a man who appeared on a 19-metre billboard in Madrid last year wearing nothing but his own brand of underwear.

A man with a museum to himself in his native Madeira. A man who bought every member of Real Madrid's medical team a car of their choice after he won the Ballon d'Or.

So it should really come as no surprise that the great man's World Cup travel arrangements have been announced not by the Portuguese FA or even a short PR release.

No. Ronaldo's plans were revealed on Friday by a Colonel in the Brazilian Air Force.

The reason, of course, is that Ronaldo is bringing no fewer than FOUR private jets with him.

Here's how AFP quoted Colonel Ary Bertolini, head of the Brazilian FA's navigation centre:

"Cristiano Ronaldo (and the squad) will arrive and be accompanied by a plane carrying 200 members of the Portuguese press, as well as four executive jets carrying his family."

The Rio Report can only speculate about how large a family presence Ronaldo plans to bring - but four private jets? You could cram most of the population of Funchal in those.

Portugal arrive at their base near Sao Paulo in Southern Brazil on June 7.

They play Germany on June 15 in Salvador, before travelling to the Amazonian city of Manaus to face the USA, and finish their Group G campaign against Ghana in Brasilia on June 26.
